self catering in Orkney

Welcome to The Annexe at Waaness

If you are seeking the tranquility of Orkney, and are looking for self catering accommodation, then this is the place for you. From the comfort of the lounge enjoy the views over Scapa Flow, towards Hoy, Orkney Mainland and Churchill Barrier No 3. The Annexe is a completely separate residence adjoining the owner's bungalow.

The Annexe self catering cottage can clearly been seen on the above photo on the right hand side of the garage.

The annexe sleeps 4 in two bedrooms, a double and a twin room. There is a lovely lounge with three large windows, good sized kitchen with all necessary equipment, a shower room, laundry room, a nice private garden with sea views.

Open your arrival will be a starter pack with Orkney specialities, as well as free range eggs from our neighbour, dishwasher and laundry tablets so you don't have to rush out to the shops. There are also complimentary toiletries in the shower room.

All heating and lighting is included in the tariff as well as bed linen and towels.

The clear northern waters provide delicious seafood, whilst the farmland provides excellent Orkney beef and lamb. Try washing it down with locally brewed beer or wine. And of course Orkney is home to the most northerly whisky distillery at Kirkwall. All are irresistible!

There is plenty of wildlife to watch. Last May we had a pod of about 40 dolphins in front of The Annexe feeding. The year before we were lucky enough to have a visit from a basking shark, which also fed for hours swimming up and down. Birds are of course in abundance here in Orkney, gulls of many types, Oyster Catchers, Curlews and of course the Puffin.

Orkney is alive with music! There is always a musical event happening whatever time of year you choose to visit.

No wonder so many friends return to our Orkney self catering accommodation year after year, and new visitors fall under its enchantment.

This is the rear view of The Annexe self catering cottage. As you can see there are two big windows looking out from the lounge at one end dining room at the other. This gives you fantastic views across the sea. You can observe any creel boats, naval boats or other craft such as kayaks or canoes. Birds can be viewed from the window as well as the local black and brown rabbits. In spring it is lovely to watch the lambs in the field, jumping and charging about in 'gangs'!

Here in Orkney we have some beautiful wild flowers, like The Marsh Orchid, Orkney Cotton, Eyebright and the tiny Primula Scotica.

Whilst you are here why not try island hopping. Other islands are easy to get to by boat or the small inter island airplane. Have a look at the seaweed eating sheep on North Ronaldsay or visit the Old man oh Hoy. Cycle hire can be arranged on most islands.

Seals are just around the corner from our Orkney self catering cottage.

Welcome
